Piping Shrike Shiraz 2005
Piping Shrike Shiraz is named after for the Australian Magpie whose territorial diligence ensures the protection of the Barossa Shiraz grapes from thieving Blackbirds. A rich, voluptuous, generous wine with superb balance. Wine Advocate Winemaker Charles Cimicky has fashioned a terrific value from 100% Shiraz aged in old American hogsheads and smaller French barrels. It is another example of what can be achieved by top quality winemaking in the Barossa's finest viticultural areas. This 2005 Shiraz exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with superb blackberry, spice box, pepper, and cedar characteristics. Full-bodied, opulent, and fleshy, this hedonistic offering should be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years. Score: 90. —Robert Parker, October 2006. |
